ABOUT THE COURSE:

2-Day Seminar • 12 Hours • Oldsoul Education

Technique without identity is empty.

In the early 1970s, Glam Rock didn't just break the rules it rewrote them in glitter and grit. It was the birth of the Shag: a gender-bending, rebellious silhouette defined by extreme layers and an unapologetic attitude. Moving away from the rigid precision of the previous decade, the Shag introduced a raw, lived-in aesthetic that prioritized texture over tidiness and movement over math.

This seminar focuses on the history of the glam rock era and how to master the shag-cutting variations . You will learn how to balance aggressive internal layering with a blended or disconnected , wearable perimeter, mastering the art of the "beautiful mess" that remains the foundation of modern creative cutting.

Day 1 – Theory, History & Demo

Theory Session

• The Glam Revolution: Historic icons to know and the birth of shag in the first place.
• Key Characteristics: The heavy "curtain" fringe, disconnected lengths, extreme crown volume, and the signature feathered perimeter.
• The Architecture of Chaos: Understanding how to use over-direction and elevation to create height without losing the "shag" soul.
• Cultural Deep-Dive: Why the Shag became the ultimate symbol of androgyny and creative freedom; breaking the binary through hair.
• Anatomy of Texture: Reading natural wave patterns and hair density to determine where to remove weight; choosing the right tools (razors vs. shears) and products (tonics , clays, dry textures) for that second-day-hair feel.

Demo Session

We bring the stage to the studio with live demonstrations. Students will observe the transition from technical structure to artistic deconstruction before picking up their tools.

Key Demonstrations & What Students Gain

1. The Iconic 70s Shag & Mullet Fusion

• Full Breakdown: Mapping the short interior crown, carving out the face-framing "wings," and maintaining length in the back for a true rockstar silhouette.
• What students gain: The confidence to perform high-elevation layering mastering the balance between "messy" and "mastered."

Day 2 – Workshop Session

Hands-on Practice: Executing the perfect Shag, the and Classic variations of the "Rockstar" fringe.

• Deconstruction Techniques: Advanced razor work, deep point cutting, slicing for internal airiness, and manipulating the crown for maximum lift.
• Styling for Stage & Street: Diffusing for natural volume, finger-styling, and using salt-infused products to enhance natural movement without the "done" look.
• Final Student Cuts: Full execution on models or mannequins, followed by professional portfolio photography highlighting texture and silhouette.

After Workshop

• Q&A session — deeper reflection, troubleshooting, and inspiration.
• Diploma presentation with photos (group shots and individual handovers).
