ABOUT THE COURSE:

2-Day Seminar • 12 Hours • Oldsoul Education

Technique without identity is empty.

In the 1960s, Mods didn’t chase chaos they perfected control. Clean, sharp lines, precise fringes, and reduced volume created looks that were effortlessly stylish, scooter-ready, and instantly recognizable as symbols of youthful sophistication and modernity.

This seminar focuses first on history and then on how to create the correct outline structure through hair-cutting techniques, while refining and personalizing the final shape. You will learn how to control precision and movement to achieve a true wash-and-wear look exactly as the original Mods intended.

Day 1 – Theory, History & Demo

Theory Session

• The birth of the Mod look Europe-inspired, influenced by Italian tailoring, and a sharp rebellion against rocker excess and post-war stillness.
• Key characteristics of the look (e.g. precise fringe, tight sides, textured top with controlled movement, no excess bulk).
• Techniques required to achieve the look.
• Cultural deep-dive why precision equaled intelligence, style, and modern masculinity; a clean escape from conformity through sophistication.
• Anatomy of precision how hair density, growth patterns, and face shape guide outline creation; product selection (light pomades, sea-salt sprays) and application for wash-and-wear hold without stiffness.

Demo Session

We bring the history to life with step-by-step live demonstrations on mannequins and/or models, so students can observe techniques in real time before practicing themselves.

Key Demonstrations & What Students Gain

1. Classic Mod Fringe & Crop Build

• Full breakdown mapping the outline, point cutting and texturising the top for movement, refining the fringe for a sharp yet wearable length.
• What students gain the ability to create clean, structured shapes that remove bulk while maintaining natural flow; mastering angles for face-flattering precision.
• What we share historical vs modern adaptations; how to read hair texture to avoid choppiness and ensure true wash-and-wear ease.

Day 2 – Workshop Session

• Live demos & hands-on practice building the perfect Mod cut, French crop, textured fringe, and precision variations.
• Volume reduction techniques, shear-over-comb mastery, point cutting, texturising for movement, light product layering, and finishing for wash-and-wear perfection.
• Final student cuts on models or mannequins, including portfolio photos.

After Workshop

• Q&A session — deeper reflection, troubleshooting, and inspiration.
• Diploma presentation with photos (group shots and individual handovers).
