ABOUT THE COURSE:
2-Day Seminar • 12 Hours • Oldsoul Education
Technique without identity is empty.
In the 1970s, punks didn’t style their hair they destroyed it. Liberty spikes, razor-slashed crops, asymmetrical chaos, and precise disconnections became acts of revolt against society, authority, and perfection.
This seminar focuses first on history and then on how to create the correct outline structure through cutting techniques, while refining and personalizing the final shape. You will learn how to control disconnections and aggressive chaos exactly as the original punks did.
Day 1 – Theory, History & Demo
Theory Session
• The birth of the punk look Sex Pistols, Vivienne Westwood, and the explosive “No Future” rebellion against 1970s stagnation and conformity.
• Key characteristics of the look (e.g. liberty spikes, shaved sides, razor slashes, extreme asymmetry, raw texture).
• Techniques required to achieve the look.
• Cultural deep-dive why disconnections and chaos equaled anarchy, anti-establishment rage, and raw self-expression; hair as a weapon of defiance.
• Anatomy of chaos how hair density, growth patterns, and product selection (strong hairsprays, spike glue) influence hold, structure, and attitude.
Demo Session
We bring the history to life with step-by-step live demonstrations on mannequins and/or models, so students can observe techniques in real time before practicing themselves.
Key Demonstrations & What Students Gain
• Application, backcombing, and spiking of the center strip; razor edging for sharp disconnections.
• What students gain the ability to create tall, structured spikes that hold without collapse; mastering disconnection points for dramatic contrast.
• What we share side-by-side historical (Sex Pistols era) vs modern adaptations; tips on hair type selection and product layering to avoid drop.
Day 2 – Workshop Session
• Live demos & hands-on practice building perfect liberty spikes, mohawk variations, razor-slashed crops, and asymmetrical disconnected styles.
• Aggressive razor techniques, disconnection mastery, heavy gel and hairspray layering, texturising for chaos, and finishing for maximum attitude.
• Final student cuts on models, including portfolio photos.
After Workshop
• Q&A session — deeper reflection, troubleshooting, and inspiration.
• Diploma presentation with photos (group shots and individual handovers).
