ABOUT THE COURSE:
2-Day Seminar • 12 Hours • Oldsoul Education
Technique without identity is empty.
In the 1950s/60s, rockers didn’t just wear their hair they weaponised volume. Massive pompadours, towering quiffs, and greased ducktails became the uniform of freedom, rebellion, and hot-rod culture.
This seminar focuses first on history and then on how to create the correct outline structure through cutting techniques, while refining and personalizing the final shape. You will learn how to control volume exactly as the original rockers did.
Day 1 – Theory, History & Demo
Theory Session
• The birth of the Teddy Boys and rockers the first post-war subculture, influenced by Elvis and the youth explosion of the era.
• Key characteristics of the look (e.g. fringe, volume, structure, clean outlines).
• Techniques required to achieve the look.
• Cultural deep-dive why volume equaled power, masculinity, and escape from post-war conformity.
• Anatomy of volume how hair density, growth direction, and correct product selection influence lift, structure, and hold.
Demo Session
We bring the history to life with step-by-step live demonstrations on mannequins and/or models, so students can observe techniques in real time before practicing themselves.
Key Demonstrations & What Students Gain
1. Classic Pompadour Build
• Full breakdown sectioning, backcombing for root lift, heavy pomade application, blow-drying with a round brush for volume, and structuring the final shape.
• What students gain understanding how to create 4–6 inches of sustainable pomp without collapse; mastering product layering (pomade + spray) for all-day hold.
• What we share side-by-side historical vs modern adaptations; how to read hair density and growth patterns to avoid volume loss.
Day 2 – Workshop Session
• Live demos & hands-on practice building the perfect pompadour, ducktail, and high-volume quiff.
• Heavy pomade layering, backcombing, blow-drying, and finishing techniques.
• Final student cuts on models, including portfolio photos.
After Workshop
• Q&A session — deeper reflection, troubleshooting, and inspiration.
• Diploma presentation with photos (group shots and individual handovers).
